About the rural transport programme

Local Transport Co-ordination Units (TCUs) coordinate bus services for people living in remote areas, and to integrate them with wider public transport services.   These units all operate under the Local Link banner - although in some places they have separate brands.

East Galway

Services include:
  • A Monday - Saturday commuter service between Portumna and Ballinasloe.
  • A Monday - Friday commuter service between Loughrea and Ballinsloe
  • A wide range of weekly services throughout the county.
Free-travel pass is accepted.  Services are door-to-door and must be booked one day in advance.     


West Galway


South East Galway

  • Clare Accessible Transport provides a range of services, including some in south-east Galway (Gort, Kinvara etc):  services are shown on their website under North and North East.
